With the development of the automobile industry, people pay more and more attention to the lightweight, safety and environmental protection of automotive products, and EPP material has become the fastest-growing lightweight compressive cushioning foam with its unique and superior performance.
EPP (Expanded polypropylene) polypropylene plastic foam material is a highly crystalline polymer/gas composite material with excellent properties. EPP products have excellent seismic energy absorption performance, high recovery rate after deformation, and also have good heat resistance, chemical resistance, oil resistance and heat insulation. EPP product is a kind of foamed polypropylene particles, which are composed of two phases, solid and gas, in the form of black, pink or white granules. The outer wall of the EPP particles is closed and the inside is filled with carbon dioxide gas. Usually, its solid phase composition only accounts for 2% ~ 10% of the total weight, and the rest is gas, so the density of the finished product is small, and its density can be adjusted according to the distribution of pores, generally about one-tenth to one-twentieth of the water density, and different densities can be selected according to the use of the product. EPP is also an environmentally friendly material, which can not only be recycled and reused, but also can be degraded naturally without causing white pollution. EPP products also have the characteristics of insulation, good high and low temperature resistance, non-toxic and odorless, non-absorbent and have a certain strength, etc., and are a new type of compressive buffer foam, which is widely used in packaging, furniture, automobiles and construction and other fields.
Based on the characteristics of EPP, EPP is very suitable for the needs of automobiles in terms of safety, environmental protection and weight reduction. Therefore, since its inception, EPP has quickly been widely used in the field of automobile manufacturing. At present, most of the passenger models at home and abroad have adopted EPP materials as buffer energy-absorbing components, such as the foam block embedded with the vehicle-mounted tool in the trunk spare tire, as well as the buffer block behind the bumper, the side guard plate, the energy-absorbing protective pad of the door inner panel, the inner core of the seat cushion, the pillow core, the sun visor, the toolbox, etc.

At present, in the automobile manufacturing industry, molded products are mostly used that combine different components made of various materials. When recycling these products, the individual components have to be separated, which is cumbersome. With the increasing global demand for the recycling of discarded vehicles, the “integrated material system” has been praised by many automobile manufacturers by reducing the types of raw materials to simplify the recycling process. Due to the wide range of applications of polypropylene materials in automobiles, “EPP-PP components” are receiving increasing attention.
